How the Corner Bet Works
A corner, also called a square, covers four numbers whose boxes meet at one point, such as 1, 2, 4, and 5.
Place the chip on the cross where the four boxes meet, so it touches all four numbers.
Any of the four numbers wins at 8 to 1. Every other result loses the chip.
When this bet makes sense
A corner sits in the middle of the inside bets. It hits more often than a street and pays less, so the swings are smaller, and each win still pays several times the stake. It fits a player who wants inside-bet payouts from a bankroll that has to last a longer session. A few corners placed side by side can cover a patch of the layout with fewer chips than straight-up bets on the same numbers. That makes corners a common choice for players who favor one area of the grid and want to cover most of it.
Mistakes to avoid
- Setting the chip on a line between two boxes instead of on the cross, which turns it into a split.
- Overlapping corners so one number sits under several chips, which puts more on that number than the player meant.
- Reading 8 to 1 as eight chips back in total, when it means eight chips of profit plus the original stake.
